Possibility of Evil and Lottery comparison.

When looking at the two stories The Possibility of Evil and The Lottery a common theme could be What appears good at first is in reality evil/bad in both stories. The characters Ms. Strangeworth  and the community members appear to be good and righteous, but in the end they are actually the real problem. In the story The Possibility of Evil Ms. Strangeworth writes letters that send warnings or messages to the towns people because she thinks that her last name Strangeworth gives her the right  to run everyone's lives and tell them what they can and can't do. While in The Lottery a whole community kills one person in a twisted game of chance were the winner dies; so the town's people does not need to deal with over population.  Both stories focus on if the hero is doing the right thing.

Thursday/ Fridays work. The Possibility of Evil

Thursday/Friday Class Work:

Objective: Text analysis - students will be able to explain the motivation between the protagonist's actions after reading the story, "The Possibility of Evil" and relate it to a theme.

Students need to write a blog entry of an least 1 paragraph explaining the protagonists motivations for her action in “The Possibility of Evil”.  Students need to cite at least three pieces of evidence to support their analysis.
Mrs. Strange worth wanted to as she said in her own words stop the possibility of evil starting. Theres probably a bigger meaning to why she does. Maybe she thinks of herself as a mayor or officer since she goes on about saying that her family built this town. So if there was a problem she wanted to be the one to fix it so it didn't affect any thing in the town. She's probably more concerned for the town then the peoples well fare in a sense. She worries more about her roses then the fact she broke the hearts of two lovers. In a sense I don't think she quite cares for he peoples hearts as more of her just keeping peace no matter the cost.

Students also need to write a 2-3 paragraph sequel to show how Miss Strangeworth’s life is different after her secret is revealed.
Tearful at the site of all her roses being shredded and stomped on Miss Strange worth walked sluggishly back in side devastated by the look of what was once her beautiful garden. As she sat in her quiet dining room sipping tea all she could think of is how this could've happened to her. She sat there for good hour soon not realizing that her tea glass was empty, and all she was sipping was air. As she laid down in bed having pleasant dreams of her life before it turned into nightmares of the town chasing her back to her home all shouting and holding weapons.

The next morning she got up eyes purple from her having lack of sleep. Miss Strange worth took her morning routine and was about ready to step out the door. As she opened it there was a crunch noise. Looking down she was greeted with the sight of more roses ripped apart. Taking a few steps back she shook off the horror that was befallen upon her and soon was walking in the streets of town. As she greeted people all she got was ether grunts or silence. When Miss Strange worth was getting her normal groceries Mr. Lewis stopped her and was going to refuse service Stating she wasn't allowed in his store. Saddened she walked out and was confused on where to go.
After being denied service at every store Miss Strange worth soon went home. As she entered her yard she tripped over a hose that was right behind the gate.Miss Strange worth was dying after falling hard on the ground, Not only was it a heavy hit but she landed on a big pile of roses which had thorns spread across the whole pile of petals. the thorns were sharp enough that some punctured her skin and made her bleed out in multiple areas. Slowly she laid there only able to shed few tears as she soon starts to realize  how the town discovering her led to this. Using the last of her energy she took the nearest in tact rose and held it close to her chest.

Both of these pieces of writing should be posted on the blog.

Inside home of the future questions 1-4

1) the floors being able to weigh you so it can give the best menu of food if your over weight, using your phone to see whose knocking on your door through a camera, lastly the counters reminding you what steps you did when cooking something.
2) People with poor memory or those who are really busy all the time. it can give reminders on what you need to do, or it can check things and d the tasks for you like groceries.
3) The idea of the houses both being able to prepare or complete tasks for you. Like how in both stories the houses were preparing breakfast for the family and telling them reminders about ahas going on today.
4) The oven being able to know when to stop cooking food if the adult is forgetful or busy doing something else. It can prevent hundreds of dollars being wasted on burnt or ruined food. It also decreases the chances of fires starting in the kitchen.

There will be soft rains conclusion.

Ring Ring, Time to get up everybody, its seven o clock and its time to get up. Sluggishly Mr. and Mrs Featherstone rose from there covers slowly making there way to the bathroom to get cleaned up. The showers started as soon as they entered the bathroom the water was already warm and the sink, started ready for teeth to be cleaned and faces to be shaved. Breakfast was already served and the children were sipping there milk before the parents got downstairs.
"Happy birthday daddy!" the children shouted as there father sat down to enjoy his toast and read the prepped news paper. After breakfast Mr. featherstone went to off to his job while the wife got the kids ready and drove them to school. When she got back the kitchen was spotless as usual and the garden was waiting for her. She soon started to pick flowers for an hour before she went inside to relax. while inside she would start to make her husband a birthday cake, with the kitchen system helping of course.
Five more hours would past and the kids would soon be back from school.Mr. featherstone would be driving back from his tiring long day of work. It was friday though so he and some of his buddies from work would be playing poker tonight. When he got home he sat out side sipping his drink relaxing on the patio chair with his wife watching the children pass a ball back and fourth and chasing there big dog around. It was soon bath time for the children so they went up to get ready and see which story or adventure there room had in store for them. While the kids were preparing for bed poker time was approaching Mr. Featherstone quickly so he prepared the usual scotch for the boys while the house took care of the table and cards. Mrs featherstone would be serving sandwiches and singing happy birthday to her husband before she retired to there room ready to fall asleep to one of her poems the house would read her.
When poker was done Mr. Featherstone would warily walk up the stairs to his bedroom get changed and fall asleep next to his wife ready for tomorrow, while the house soon shut down locking the doors and waiting till the next morning when the same thing would happen again.

Today - we will be filling out Short Story Outlines on "The Pedestrian".

Students will also be looking back through the story and picking out

5 - descriptions/imagery that they feel appealing
there was a good crystal frost in the air it cut the nose and made lungs blaze like a christmas tree.
with only his shadow moving like the shadow of a hawk in mid country
these highways like streames in a dry season
were people sat like the dead
he walked like a man suddenly drunk
5 - examples of figurative language
it was not like walking through a graveyard where only the faintest glimmers of fiery light appeared in flickers behind room.
Every thing went on in the tomb like houses
To put your feet on the buckling concrete.
picking up a leaf as he walked, examining his skeletal look and smelling its rusty smell
sudden gray phantoms seemed to manifest upon inner room walls where a curtain was undrawn against the night

They will post these on the blogs with 2-3 sentences discussing how imagery and/or figurative language makes this story more effective.
It adds a type of detail and feel to the story not only describing the locations description, but more like a time about how long its been since another person besides leonard has been out side. also makes gives a type of feeling that we kind sense what things and emotions the character and reader should feel.
